Why does a salad cost more than a Big Mac?

I hope you know the answer, even though lettuce is planted, grown, picked, and transported to your local McDonald’s. While the burger is fed grain from the previous season of growing, it has to live a few years and fatten up, be transported to the butchers, frozen, and distributed out to the McDonald’s.

Subsidies of the federal government make it cheaper. Or in other words, that small percentage of your income you give up from your paycheck helps make the burger cheaper than lettuce.

I’m all for helping the farmers out, but we need to start sliding the scale towards healthier subsidies. At least help to make the lettuce and burger the same price, so people have a choice. What do you think?
